Hemmorroids - Hemmroids and anal sex

Hemmroids - is it just a common myth that anal sex could cause hemmroids (hemorrhoids)?. Absolutely! Hemroids will not be caused by sex.

While anal sex can add to the symptoms of hemmorroids, i.e. increase the pain from hemmorroids and also the bleeding from hemmroids - it is not actually causing hemmeroids in the first place and it is not absolutely necessary to tell your doctor about your sexual (anal) habits when being treated for hemmroids

Anal sex and hemorrhoids (hemroids)

It is recommended though that you avoid anal sex during the hemroid relief and treatment period, which will help healing your hemmroid condition faster. If you choose to have anal sex anyway during the hemroid period - make sure you use lots of water based lubricant and always use a condom.

Anal sex can have physical implications such as the causing of cracks (anal fissures) which in turn may allow easy transfer of blood diseases (HIV etc). It is also known that male anal sex can result in a higher anal cancer rate than among the general population, a fact that may be related to the higher occurence of HPV infections among homosexual men.

Although the anal region with its many nerve endings can mean that anal sex is highly stimulating, there is still a risk that the tissue gets damaged as it was never intended for sexual intercourse.

Anal sex and hemroids - use lubricant

It is strongly advisable to use plenty of water based lubricant when engaging in anal sex, even more so when you have hemorroids, or if you have had hemorrhoids recently. It is possible to have anal sex when you have hemmoroids but since the penetration friction and pressure can cause irritation, it may worsen the condition - or at least delay the treatment of hemmroids. Also, due to the higher susceptibility to blood diseases like HIV, it is strongly advised to use condoms during anal sex - always really, but even more important during periods when you have hemmorhoids.
